The Lake Garda by Beekite

The lake of Garda is famous all over the world for it´s great variety, breathtaking nature, huge choice of  sports to practice, amazing villages in the tipical tuscan style as well as fot the multitude of gastronomic varieties.
There are many types of water sports you can practice on the Garda Lake. Thanks to it´s wind certainty the lake is a popular destination for Windsurfers and in the meantime also for Kitesurfers.

The Spot by Beekite

Our Kiteschool “BeeKite” is located in Castelletto di Brenzone directly on the sea. The kite gets started directly by the boat in the middle of the lake. That´s why there is no risk to hurt anyhow on the beach. We drive you then to where there are the best wind conditions and where you have enough space. Our training area is 15 km long and 4 km large.

The Wind by Beekite

There are two main winds on the Garda Lake. The “Peler” and the “Ora”. The “Peler” comes from the north and begins already soon in the morning by 6 am o´clock. It can be gusty and and achieve up to 30 knots. Around 11 am the “Peler” eases off  and the “Ora” comes up. So the best time to be on the water is from 2 pm to 6 pm. The “Ora” offers perfect conditions for beginners as it´s a quite stabil wind and achieves around 16 knots.

Description of the classes by Beekite

Every participant gets teached individually and in order to his level. The classes adhere to the guidelines of the VDWS and IKO. After long year experience we use the different teaching-systems well directed. As there is no “standing area” it is much easier for beginners who want to learn this type of sport. You can see that already at the first flying exercises. Faults like tighten the “Bar” and flying the power-area are not a problem thanks to the deep water and the huge space we have available. Due to that we can save up until 3 hours of time,  besides there is no running back in case of loss of height until 15 km because we drive you back by boat.

WHEN TO COME:

The Wind season is from October till the end of May ( Sometime mid June). You should be able to ride 4/5 days a week during this period.

Wind is usually from 13 to 22 Knots on the Caribbean coast and works with NE, E, SE and S.
NE wind is usually the best as it is a bit colder, denser and pulls much more.
When the wind turns North (Called here “El Norte”), it blows from 25 to 35+ knots, and then you need to go to Isla Blanca Lagoon north of Cancun(ask PDC Kiteboarding about Lagoon excursion).

Tuamotus a.k.a Tuamotu Archipelago is located in French Polynesia and consist of a number of islands and atolls.
Tuamotus is still quite unexplored by kitesurfers, however it can be one of the top kitesurfing spots in the world!
The islands make up hundreds of beaches that are far from crowded, which means huge space for launching and rigging your kite. There are also several protected bays which allow you to ride on super flat water, but of course you have the option to go surfing in the waves in the open sea.
Tuamotos is a place where you can go not just to kitesurf, but engage in various activities such as kayaking, spear and bait fishing, diving and not to mention – eat delicious fresh sea food as well as enjoy fine wine and good drinks.

Sebastian Wagner kitesurfing somewhere… looks like a nice spot where the location now is. Wouldn’t mind to kitesurf myself right now, but I´m stuck in a super hot train in the middle of Sweden. Luckily the train is equipped with internet so I at least can watch some kite videos =)

You wake up in a 5 star Luxury Safari tent. You have your breakfast on the padio. You have a view to the beach.
Crystal clear waters, endless sandy beach. Windy, uncrowded. Super safe bay with a stunning flat section, and a mini-wave section.
It sounds like the trip of a life time, on some remote island in Fiji. Too far away, too expensive.

Guess twice.
Welcome to Keros beach, on Limnos Island, Greece.
Keros, a vast, sandy beach, with turquoise shallow waters, blessed with Meltemi wind. A magic flat section on the North side of the beach, a bump and jump section in the middle, and small but nice waves on the South end. And the spot is empty.
Even in high season, there are maximum 50 riders on the beach, and the beach is 3 km wide, so it can handle many more with absolutely no stress.

Conditions
Limnos is an average wind spot, with the Meltemi normaly blowing force 4-6. Some days can be flat, but some days can also be super strong, like most of the Greek islands. You should expect to use kites between 8m-11m, but often, smaller. The best part is the beach morphology, offering complete flat sections and a mini-wave spot at the same beach.
For those big wave fans, the island features one of the best wave spots in Greece, Gomati, but it is mostly a winter spot, so chances are better if you visit early or late in the season.

About the island.
Far away from mass tourism, Limnos resides at the North-Eastern part of the Aegean Sea, still offering deserted beaches (more than 100), idyllic small villages, archeological sites, and natural reserves. Located where the Meltemi wind starts it’s journey over the Greek island, Limnos in ancient times was also known as ‘Anemoessa’, which means ‘windy island’.

What makes the island so attractive is the unspoiled terrain and the natives. On Limnos you can see Greece as it was 30 or 50 years ago. The local wine, the local cusine, the unspoiled landscapes and the idyllic beaches, will want you to stay forever.

Landscapes
Keros bay is within an environmental protected area. The scenery is unique: sand dunes, salt lakes with flamingos, isolated beaches full of small shells, make you feel that you are not in Europe or Greece, but in a completely different continent.

The beach
The beach is sandy, the waters are turquoise and crystal clear, and the wide bay makes it super safe. On the beach you will find Surf Club Keros, which is an International Kiteboarding Organisation Affiliated center. All instructors are experienced, but super friendly. As they say, Surf Club Keros is a kite school from kiters for kiters, so the vibes are mellow and the smiles are wide!
Equipment-wise, you can try out brand new equipment from Cabrinha!

Accommodation
Being within an environmentaly protected area means that there are no big buildings around Keros, hence no hotels or studios by the beach. But you can go ‘Glamping’. You can stay at Surf Camp Keros which is located on the hill besides the bay, in one of their Luxury Safari tents, combining the feeling of camping with the luxury of a hotel room. The tents are very spacious (25sqm for the double and 35sqm for the jumbo tents) and feature wood decking, high quality furnishing, a bathroom and shower, plasma tv, but the best part of living there is the view you get every morning when you wake up-or while you are having breakfast in bed! Highly recommended!
Otherwise you can stay in your own tent at our Camping place close to the beach!

Getting to Limnos
Flights: You can fly to Athens (ATH) or Thessaloniki (SKG) and pick a domestic flight to Limnos (LXS).
From the beginning of May till the end of October, there is a Thomas Cook direct flight from London.
Ferries: There is a daily ferry from Kavala to Limnos, and 1-2 Ferries per week from Thessaloniki to Limnos.

Reno Romeu kiteboarding at his home spot Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro.

The video is not bad, but the shoter Andre Magarao obviously has a pretty bad taste when it comes to music. I think the natural choice of song to this video of course should have been Solid Sessions – Janeiro!

I have no idea where this video is shot, but it´s a pretty good one! Not just the usual stuff we see, but some nice scenery, under water shoots etc… watch it!

Nicky Rudd is a name that may not sound as familiar as Susa Mai or Hannah Whitley. However after watching this video, I´m pretty sure that Nicky Rudd is a name that most likely will be heard more often onwards. Here is the video with Nicky, filmed at Coche in Venezuela.

So, who is this girl?

Well, Nicky Rudd is a 27 year old girl from Exmouth, Devon in the UK. She started kiteboarding in 2007. Prior to that she did a lot off off shore sailing which, as Nicky states it, was pretty hardcore and she was apperantly a keen windsurfer back in the days. During the less windy days she could watch kiters jumping over her head and she simply thought that “I need to do that!” Nicky took a kiteboarding lesson and has never looked back since.
As Nicky says – kitesurfing is a sport that has so much to offer; there is a great deal of freedom involved, physically and mentally. Kitesurfing allows you to explore beautiful places and share great experiences.

Nicky Rudd’s home spot is located in Exmouth, Devon. A pretty unique spot in that you can kite both in the river or on the seafront; making it kite-able in almost any wind direction. It´s such a beautiful location where the kiters are spoiled with butter flat water at low tide and waves over the sand bar when there is swell. There is also a great local kiting community which has been built around Edge Watersports.

Besides travelling around the world kitesurfing and competing, Nicky is also working as a kitesurfer instructor for Bracklesham Board Riders on the south coast in West Sussex.

At the local beaches where Nicky lives there are a group of girls that pull the more technical tricks and Nicky loves the look on the ‘guys’ faces when she lands trick that they can’t do. Some will often start riding more aggressively, trying to do even bigger airs, something that always put a smile on Nicky’s face. Nicky says that there is something really satisfying about being better at a sport than most of the guys!

Conclusion; think twice before you pack your kite to visit Nicky’s local home spot. Trying to impress on this hot chick might end up with that you make yourself a laughing stock :)

Garda Lake is certainly famous for its favorable climate , and even more for its constant and regular thermal winds.

More precisely the “Peler”, a north wind, blows during the morning , from 7.00 am to 11.00 am; instead the afternoon is characterized by the “Ora”, a south wind, which blows  from  1.30 pm until 6.00 pm.

While sailing is practiced all over the lake and the area around Torbole is famous since the ’80s for windsurfing, in the recent years Brenzone has become a Mecca for kitesurfers.

The increasing popularity of Brenzone  among kitesurfers is justified by the peculiarity of its thermal winds. In fact, the “Ora” having an intensity of 12 – 17 knots is particularly suitable for beginners, while the “Peler”, with an intensity ranging from 14 to 25 knots  is typically appreciated by more experienced kiters.

Another distinctive feature of the Garda Lake is represented by the absence of adequately spacious beaches. This natural obstacle has been overcome by the kite centers in Brenzone thanks to an innovative approach:  the use of boats, commonly referred to as shuttle service, for the launching and landing phases.

In addition this system has generated undoubted advantages for kiters, the most appreciated being: increased support and assistance, the possibility to try out maneuvers without worrying about going back upwind, the unique opportunity to be taken by  boat on the best spots and last but not least a huge space to ride with a breathtaking view surrounded by magnificent mountains.

The Centro Kite Marniga offers all of this, together with a variety of courses tailored for all different levels and ages.
